“Eric and I have been long distance for a little over a year now – him in Atlanta, and myself in Greenville. He knew he wanted to propose in Atlanta because it is the city we are starting our lives together in, and where he is currently completing his medical residency. Eric had an amazing plan put together that involved a dinner on Friday night and a proposal in Piedmont Park on Saturday. He even arranged for both of our families to be in town for it (mine from Ohio, and his from SC). However, I threw a wrench in the plan when I arrived to his place Friday night with a fever that turned out to be the flu AND strep throat. Despite being extremely nervous and freaking out behind the scenes to our families, Eric kept his composure with me and leapt into doctor mode and took care of me without giving anything away. Saturday morning came and he somehow managed to convince me to go to Piedmont Park to meet some friends (false plans – no friends were meeting us) and even convinced me that doing my hair and makeup may make me feel better (which is true, but mostly knowing he had a photographer waiting to take pictures of the proposal and knew I wouldn’t want to look like a sick zombie for them). Despite all the obvious signs that morning, I was too sick to realize he was carrying out his plan. As we walked through Piedmont Park I continued to make this difficult for him as I asked him to get me a cherry snow cone at a nearby festival to help soothe my throat. He adamantly refused which was very out of character for him (later to realize he was picturing a horror story of proposing to me with bright red snow cone all over my face). As we got to the spot he was planning on proposing, I didn’t realize what was happening until he was reaching in his pocket and getting down on one knee. I was so excited and shocked, and of course I said yes! It has been a humorous and wonderful story to look back on and I’m really glad he got to pull off his grand plan after all!”
Congratulations, McKenzie + Eric!! xoxo, The OLAS Team
