We’re SO excited for this precious couple and their engagement! We can’t wait for their wedding next Fall but this session is holding us over in the meantime. We caught up with Meghan to learn a little more about how they met and what they’re cooking up for their wedding…
How did you and your partner meet?
Scott and I first met more than a decade before our first date when we were teenagers vacationing in Chatham, Cape Cod with our families. Scott approached me on the beach and asked me what book I was reading. After a few minutes of conversation, we discovered that both of our families just lived 15 minutes away from each other in the Chicago suburbs — small world! The world got even smaller when four years later I was a college freshman taking the Miami University Mega Bus home to Chicago for Fall Break when I started talking to a sophomore named Scott who was sitting across the aisle from me. We soon discovered we had met years earlier in Chatham! Scott later sent me a Facebook Friend Request and would message me over the years until I finally said yes to a first date two years post-college graduation 🙂
Is there a moment in your dating history that stands out above the rest?
When Scott proposed on the beach where we first met in Chatham, Cape Cod. He asked me to go for a walk on the beach the first night of our vacation and strategically had the concierge positioned to take what I thought was a photo of us during the sunset but really it was a video of Scott proposing! Scott then had a cabana set up for us to watch the sunset over a bottle of Prosecco and fire pit on the beach!
What did you love most about your engagement shoot? Your photographer?
It was a gorgeous fall day at the Milton Lee Olive Park in Chicago and we loved having our dog, Chatham, join us for some family photos. Isaac was wonderful — he made us feel so comfortable in what we expected to be an uncomfortable experience. We loved getting to know him too, which made the experience much more natural.
What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?
We can’t wait to celebrate with family and friends in our beloved city of Chicago, especially since Scott and I will be moving to New York City in June 2018 for a Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine that Scott accepted at Mount Sinai Health System.
Any tips for other engaged brides who are hiring their vendors (photographers, planners, caterers, etc.) or starting the planning process?
At first, Scott and I didn’t plan on doing engagement photos, but I’m so relieved we did! This was the first time we had taken professional photos and I’m so glad we had this “trial” experience with Isaac before our wedding. Now we know what to expect when taking photos on our wedding day and feel completely comfortable with Isaac after getting to know him at our engagement shoot.
Congratulations, Meghan + Scott!! The OLAS Team
