Get ready, everyone, to fall in LOVE with this wedding. Katie + Anders were married in mid-August at the beautiful Knoll Crest Gardens in Sandy, Oregon, and our Portland photographer duo Ashley + Kellen were there to capture every moment of this incredible, personality-packed day of loveliness. Not only is K + A’s wedding BEYOND incredible (seriously…just wait until you see the level of detail! And that backdrop!!), they also have an unbelievable engagement story. Anders proposed to Katie while vacationing in Maui. He first arranged to have a small airport shut down for a few hours (you know, no biggie), and then had someone scribe a huge proposal in the sand on a bay on Maui’s east shore. Then it was go time. In Katie’s words:
I just thought we were all going power hang-gliding and didn’t think anything of it. Once I was up in the air (it was only a 2 person hang glider so it was just the instructor and myself), my instructor handed me some head gear and a controller and then pointed off to the left and said, “See that plane over there? You will need this head gear to talk to Anders. He is on that plane.” … I had no idea he was going to be up in the air at the same time as me.
..I chatted back and forth over the radio waves with Anders while we flew around admiring the beauty of Maui’s East shore. My pilot then had me radio over to Anders plane, to tell them we were going to go look at a bay off in the distance. My pilot said it was a particularly beautiful bay so we had to check it out (mind you, I still had no clue anything was going on). As we started to get closer I could see something was on the beach below. We continued to creep closer, and at the very same time Anders radioed over and said do you see anything on the beach. At the very same time he said it, those words it appeared… “Katie Mary Me”.
…After I saw the letters in the sand Anders radioed back over and said “Katie will you make me the happiest man in the work and marry me?” I, of course, said yes!
