Highlights :: Rachel + Andrew's Wedding at The Hauser Estate Winery and The Gettysburg Hotel in Gettysburg, PA :: with Sharmila

What was the most surprising thing about your wedding :: The 40 mph wind gusts definitely added an element of surprise to the big day – and our something we can laugh about now. We had planned an outdoor ceremony at the winery on top of a hill outside Gettysburg. Every time we visited the venue, the weather was great. For the rehearsal the day before, the weather was also nice (65 degrees or so, sunny, no wind). The day of the wedding, a cold front came through, and the temperature dropped to 50 degrees – with 40 mph wind gusts. Let’s just say that I did not know that there was an icon for wind gusts on my weather app until my wedding day. The venue was get in that they already had a back plan (tent – that we were told was capable of sustaining 70 mph wind gusts) set up next to the tasting room. Andrew actually made the decision to move the ceremony into the tent. He drove to the winery around lunch time prior to the ceremony. He says, “I was thinking, this is fine, just a little chilly. Then a wind gust came and almost knocked me off my feet. Ok – time to move inside.” The wind did not let up at all during the ceremony either. At some points it was blowing so hard that our officiant could not be heard over it. I tried my best to roll with it, and it’s comical to think about now.

What was your favorite detail from your wedding :: One of our favorite, and most fun, details was the groom’s cake. Our baker designed the cake to look like our french bulldog, Napoleon. The cake was a perfect replica, and it was meaningful to us as Napoleon could not make the cross-country journey to be a part of the big day. Another favorite detail were the centerpieces that were designed by our florist. I thought that the golden greenery was really unique and added a beautiful touch.
